Ahead of the DFB Cup season 2016/17 a new app was developed to extend and enhance the fan experience beyond the actual game days – a first in the history of the competition. The new mobile platform delivers a number of infotainment, engagement and service benefits through a comprehensive selection of multimedia content.
To encourage an active exchange with users and function as a single point of contact for fans keen to learn more about the DFB Cup, its teams and players, Infront and the German Football Association (DFB) jointly developed a new app. The mobile and tablet app, built by Infront’s subsidiary Omnigon, required significant digital expertise including:
Once developed, the official DFB Cup app brought the competition, its many venues, teams, players and partners a giant step closer to the fans to offer real time engagement opportunities. Released in both English and German, it includes a Match Hub with full live match statistics powered by Corebine, Infront X's proprietary real-time data network. Other features include: detailed club and player pages, photo and video galleries, a social media hub and a page dedicated to the results of all previous matches.
Finally, a series of gamification features such as quizzes, sharing content socially, voting on match outcomes or in the in-match ‘hash clash’ engages fans and provides the opportunity to earn points which automatically enter users into sweepstakes with prizes including tickets to the finals, jerseys, autographed memorabilia and other gifts. Fully targeted to the interests of the fans, the app provides a digital home for the DFB Cup available anytime and anywhere.
