Zug, Switzerland – Infront has boosted its football market presence through a new agreement with Sport TV and Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP) for the international media rights to the Allianz Cup.
The partnership gives Infront responsibility to distribute the tournament's media rights until the end of the 2019/20 season on a global basis, excluding Portugal and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The announcement comes after Infront expanded its presence into the UK market through an agreement with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) for its four leagues and two cup competitions.
As one of the most important football tournaments in Portugal, the Allianz Cup has helped launch the careers of many top Portuguese and international players, with UEFA EURO 2016 champions Renato Sanches, Moutinho and Rui Patrício among previous winners.
Thirty two teams start battle to become the "Winter Champion" with the final taking place in January at the stunning Braga stadium. A new format was introduced, with the top four sides from the 2017/18 Liga NOS now split into one of four groups for the last stage before the Final Four.
Stephan Herth, Infront Senior Vice President Football said: "Portugal is a fiercely passionate footballing nation and the Allianz Cup has become a launch pad for the country's stars. The new competition structure is unique in world football and rewards league performance unlike any other league cup competition. We look forward to working with Sport TV and the LPFP to deliver this tournament to fans around the world."
